Darcy Modina began her career on the ground as a civil engineer, stepping onto a major construction site at just 18 while completing her engineering degree. Over the next seven years, she built extensive experience delivering civil construction, infrastructure, residential subdivision, and bridge projects across South East Queensland. Her curiosity about the decisions behind development eventually led her from the contractor side into property development, where she could apply her construction expertise to the broader commercial, planning, stakeholder, and end-user considerations that shape successful projects.
Today, Darcy is a senior development manager at Boldstone, managing a diverse portfolio of large-scale developments across Queensland, including projects in the growing Bundaberg region. She shares how Boldstone’s agile approach challenges traditional development conventions, from project delivery and problem-solving to branding and responding to different buyer markets. Darcy also explores the opportunities and pressures facing Queensland’s land development industry, including rising construction costs, housing affordability, constrained supply, and the infrastructure demands leading into Brisbane 2032.
Beyond land development, Darcy is a competitive bodybuilder, bringing the same discipline, resilience, consistency, and drive for improvement to both her sporting and professional life. Her journey also highlights the importance of mentorship, building strong professional networks, and finding people who champion your growth, particularly as a young woman beginning her career in a traditionally male-dominated industry. From civil engineering to leading major property developments, Darcy’s story is ultimately one of embracing challenges, continually learning, and constantly striving to improve.
