Full Episode
Col Dutton began his career in civil engineering and development assessment, working within local government during the Gold Coast’s rapid growth period in the late 1990s and early 2000s. His early experience coordinating land and environmental approvals provided a strong foundation in urban development and infrastructure planning.
He later joined Stockland as Project Director for Pacific Pines on the Gold Coast, becoming the company’s first employee based in the region. Over the following decade, he helped build Stockland’s Gold Coast presence and delivered several major residential communities.
An opportunity to lead Stockland’s Western Australian business eventually brought Col and his family to Perth, where he now oversees one of the state’s largest residential development portfolios, including more than 20,000 lots across Perth’s major growth corridors.
Throughout the episode, Col discusses the importance of infrastructure investment, housing supply, and coordinated planning in shaping growing cities. He also shares how Stockland is embedding ESG principles into its developments through sustainability initiatives, renewable energy integration, and innovative communities such as the all-electric NARA project in Beaconsfield.
The conversation also explores leadership, industry advocacy through the UDIA, and the evolving future of Australian housing and community development. Beyond work, Col reflects on the importance of resilience, balance, and maintaining perspective—lessons reinforced through endurance events like the Rottnest Channel Swim.
